How to build a tech stack for your business

SaaS. UCaaS. CCaaS. The list goes on. In fact, there are more than 50 “as-a-service” offerings available today. These solutions have grown beyond simple software subscriptions to include platforms designed to enhance employee experience (EX) and customer experience (CX).

With so many options, businesses have more opportunities than ever to innovate. The challenge lies in deciding which technologies to adopt. Selecting the wrong solution can waste time and resources while missing out on key innovations might leave you struggling to keep up.

At AdviseCX, we guide businesses in navigating these decisions every day. Let’s explore how to approach building a tech stack strategically, and how our expertise ensures the process is seamless and results-driven.

What is a tech stack?

Your tech stack is the collection of tools, platforms, and software that keeps your business running smoothly. Think of it as the foundation for your operations, customer interactions, and employee workflows.

For example, a typical tech stack might include:

  • Customer relationship management (CRM) platforms
  • Analytics tools to measure performance
  • Communication and collaboration apps
  • Help desk systems for support
  • Marketing automation tools

The key isn’t just having the tools—it’s how well they work together to create seamless experiences for employees and customers alike.

Chances are, you have some elements of a tech stack in place. But is it working as effectively as it could? Here’s how to build or refine your stack to better support your goals.

Step 1: Audit your current tech stack

Before exploring new technologies, start by taking a close look at what you already use. List the tools and platforms currently in place, then evaluate how well they’re supporting your business.

Ask yourself questions like:

  • Do these systems enhance our customers’ experiences?
  • Are they helping employees work efficiently?
  • Are there gaps or inefficiencies in our current setup?

If you’re not sure where to start, consider mapping your tech stack against your customer journey or internal workflows. This can help pinpoint areas that need improvement.

Step 2: Define your business objectives

Technology should be more than a collection of tools—it should actively support your business goals. Before making any decisions, get clear on what you’re trying to achieve.

Some common objectives include:

  • Streamlining internal processes
  • Improving communication between teams or with customers
  • Enhancing customer self-service options
  • Gaining better insights through data and analytics

Involve your team in this process. They can provide valuable input about where workflows are breaking down or where opportunities for improvement exist.

Step 3: Research potential solutions

Once you’ve identified your needs, start exploring what’s out there. But remember: not every new technology will be the right fit. Stay focused on finding solutions that align with your goals.

Consider questions like:

  • Does this address a specific problem or gap?
  • How well does it integrate with our existing tools?
  • What’s the user experience like—for both employees and customers?
  • Is it scalable as our business grows?

At AdviseCX, we take this research a step further, leveraging our expertise to recommend solutions tailored to your needs. We even partner with leading technology providers to ensure you’re set up for long-term success.

Step 4: Compare and prioritize options

Not all tools are created equal, and not every solution will be the best investment. Once you’ve narrowed down your options, evaluate them based on:

  • Features that directly support your goals
  • Integration capabilities
  • Cost-effectiveness and ROI

This step can be complex, especially when evaluating multiple vendors. AdviseCX simplifies the process, offering side-by-side comparisons and expert insights to help you make informed decisions.

Step 5: Analyze cost and plan for ROI

Upgrading your tech stack is an investment, but the right choices can deliver significant returns. Consider both the short-term and long-term costs, including licensing fees, implementation, and training.

At AdviseCX, we focus on ensuring every technology you choose delivers measurable value, whether it’s improving customer satisfaction, reducing operational costs, or streamlining workflows.
